Food/Flowers/Favorites

No, I didn't make this cake.  I just took a picture of it because I liked it...A LOT!  We served this at my sister-in-law's bridal shower a few weeks ago and not only did it look so pretty, it was delicious!  1st layer was white cake, 2nd layer real strawberry cake, and 3rd layer was orange. YUMMY.  The cake base was made from solid white chocolate, so you could even eat that part!

This is my hydrangea bush.  It is special to me because my mom gave it to me about 3 years ago for mother's day and I planted it at the front of our house.  It's getting bigger with more blooms each summer.  I don't have much of a green thumb but I'm mighty proud that I haven't killed this one yet!

Does anyone else just love fair food?  Well my family definitely does.  Here are my boys chowing down on some delicious state fair food.  The oldest boy chose the ever-so-classic corn dog.  The younger one went with the locally produced pork burger.  Can't go wrong with either choice...(trust me, I had both.)

My pie crusts are usually not the prettiest, but I think they taste pretty darn good!  Pie crust is typically pretty easy as long as you are good at measuring.  Too much flour or water and you will have a tough crust, too much shortening and it will be too crumbly.  It's also hard not to over-work your dough which makes it tough too.  I've tried different pie crust recipes (they usually only vary slightly), but I've always had the best luck with the Better Homes and Garden's recipe.  Besides adding milk and sugar to the top of the crust, I have a couple secrets too ;)

The boys and I were in the mood for something sweet and "fall-ish" so we decided on some homemade caramel corn.  It was easy to make and very delicious.  I was worried it was going to be too ooey-gooey if you know what I mean, but after it sat for 15 minutes or so, it was just right, perfectly crunchy. Above is the line-up of ingredients.  The "how-much" and "how-to" can be found in the Better Homes and Garden cookbook which I suggest that everyone own a copy of.  Here's a few pictures of the whole process:

Here are the spooky treats I made for the boys on Halloween!

1.  Mummy-dogs
2.  Witch's fingers

3. Spooky snakes

Don't you just love making Christmas cookies?  We sure do!  I've made it a Christmas Eve tradition since my oldest was born.  It's a mess with young boys, but so worth it!
