Sunday Morning Secrets

The boys woke up early Sunday morning before church and came toddling into our room to make sure we were up too.  The hubby and I were both trying to get ready so I put the boys up on our bed and turned on some cartoons and they rolled around and played for about 20 minutes.  It melted my heart and this picture says it all.  Amidst all their usual fighting, pinching, hitting, knocking down and screaming at each other, it reminds me that they really do love each other!  Or, they're just forming some sort of alliance before the third boy gets thrown into the mix!

Halloween fun

I'm a few weeks behind on blogging, but I've finally mustered up the time and energy to make a new post!  Myself, the boys and the hubby really got into the Halloween festivities this year.  The oldest boy decided months before October that he wanted to be a pirate and since I love a good theme, I instantly decided they had to go as Peter Pan and Captain Hook.  Since I'm not one of those to make elaborate home-made costumes, and since every store you went into from Septemeber on had a wide variety of Pirate costumes, we went with some store-bought pirate garb that my mother-in-law found on clearance.  Now, the Peter Pan costume was a little trickier.  I looked everywhere and had no luck on a tot-sized Peter Pan costume.  I finally found the perfect little hat at a party store, ordered some green tights on-line and cut up a green t-shirt and brown felt for the rest...and there you have it, an adorable little Peter Pan, red hair and all!  Under my food/flowers/favorites tab you'll see some pics of the spooky treats we made for dinner on Halloween night.

Jack-o-lanterns!

Saturday night we decided to make the best of our pumpkins and turn them into Jack-o-lanterns.  Of course my oldest boy wanted his to be "berry pooky", so we made his have sharp teeth and mean looking eyes, he was thrilled.  The husband and I have been carving pumpkins every Fall since we've been married so it's become a tradition and now that we have kids it is one of my favorite nights of the year!

The Great Pumpkin Hunt

We loaded the kids up Friday afternoon and headed north to take our annual trip to Huber Farms for our great pumpkin hunt.  The day couldn't have been more beautiful for a trip to the orchard.  The only trouble was finding pumpkins small enough that the boys could carry back to the tractor themselves.  Of course they both kept grabbing either rotten ones or green ones, but we weren't in a hurry and it was priceless seeing them run through fields and fields of pumpkins.  The boys ended up finding perfect pumpkins and so did the hubby and I.  And, with a little help from Daddy we all made it back to the tractor with pumpkins in tow.  What a great family tradition!

Beautiful weekend

The hubby had a business trip in Orlando this last week and originally we were all going to head down there with him, but since I'm big and pregnant the doc advised me to stay home and hubby ended up taking our oldest boy with him.  So instead of sitting around moping this weekend, me and the middle boy and B.I.B decided to head up to Brown County Indiana with my mom and youngest sis.  It was such a beautiful day, the leaves are gorgeous right now.  On the way we stopped at a historic Inn and Restaurant and my sis captured this sweet picture of me and my little man swinging on an old tree swing that hung from an old walnut tree.

Boo-Boo

Well, this picture definitely doesn't do it justice, but my middle boy took a great tumble down the steps this week and had his first trip to the ER.  I would have taken a photo right after the incident to show the giant goose-egg that popped up instantly, but it made me nauseated to even glance at it.  Rushing to the ER I was just sure his skull was cracked open causing his brains to bulge out from his head.  Luckily I'm just very pessimistic.  Ended up being just a big knot right under the skin...no fractured skull! The husband and I didn't see the fall but we both heard it, and it's a horrifying sound no one should have to hear.  There are about 15 steps leading down to our basement and since we didn't witness the fall we had to rely on the information our 3 year old provided us.  His number one statement concerning the whole incident was, "I didn't push him, I didn't push him!"  Alright we got that loud and clear!  Thankfully my nerves were eased as we waited in the Emergency room to be seen and the boys ran around laughing and playing (and fighting), I knew at that point my middle boy couldn't have been injured too seriously.   I'm sure this won't be our last late night visit to the ER with 3 boys.

Mom and Dad

So, I've definitely been slacking in the blogging arena lately and I also haven't taken many photos for that matter.  I got in the photo library on my computer and began searching for a nice picture to post for today, and this one of my mom and dad  (AKA: Ma-maw and Pa-paw) popped out at me.  I love this picture of them, I took it recently at a family wedding.  They clean up quite nice :)  My mom and I are two peas in a pod.  She thinks I'm really high maintenance but I think she's really high maintenance (I think we're both in denial!)  My boys are absolutely obsessed with these two people!  My oldest begs me all the time to spend the night with Ma-maw and Pa-paw.  We live a couple hours apart which isn't too bad, but I still wish I could see them everyday!  Love you mom and dad!

My little soccer star

So, my oldest boy is 3 1/2 and what better age to start him into sports huh? (insert sarcasm).  But really, we did want him to be involved in some type of activity in which he learns teamwork (and burns off some of that excess energy).  So we found about the only sport we could in our area that starts at age three, and that would be soccer.  He actually LOVES it!  He loves putting on all his tiny little soccer gear and running around aimlessly kicking the ball.  My hubby and I neither one played the sport, so we don't have the first clue how it works, we weren't even sure how to put the shin guards on at first.  Thursday he had his first game and it was adorable to see a bunch of pint sized guys running around laughing and kicking the ball.  Talk about cute!  I vowed I would never become one of those ultra-competitive moms screaming from the sidelines (especially now since he's only three) but I actually found it hard to resist continually yelling "come on son, keep your eye on the ball...HURRY!  GO! GO! GO!"  it was a little embarrassing in hindsight.  Here's a shot of him in action!

Apples

Sunday we took the boys to an orchard to pick apples.  It was perfect!  They loved filling the bag with apples and there were definitely enough to fill lots and lots of bags.  It took the middle boy a little while to figure out that you don't grab the rotten ones from the ground, but it was so cute to see him finally get the hang of it and start picking them off the trees.  Those apples were delicious.  I ended up making a pie which you can see pictured under my food/flowers/favorites tab. (It tasted much better than it looked).

Boys will be boys

The boys were in a family member's wedding this weekend and they looked adorable in their little bitty tuxes.  The wedding was outside, it was a beautiful day!  We got the boys into their tuxes about 2 hours before the wedding started.  Boy oh boy talk about stressful.  Trying to keep them from rolling in the dirt, crawling around on their hands and knees, getting into sword fights with sticks, swinging from the railing on the stairs.  The tuxes survived (and the boys too for that matter). They were so handsome walking down the aisle :)

Fridays...

Friday is definitely my middle boy's favorite day of the week.  Mommy is off work, The older boy is in preschool, and he gets all the toys to himself.  I took him to the dollar store earlier and I forgot how easy it is to manage just one child in a store.  Whew...I may never leave the house when the third boy gets here!

Ahhhh

Lately when I leave for work it's still dark, but this morning I was running about 10 minutes late and this was the view from my back porch.  Of course a picture doesn't do it justice but it makes me appreciate the beautiful nature scenes that God creates for us that I often take for granted.  And it makes me appreciate living in the country too!

Fall is coming!!!

I was feeling like a super-momma today, so I ran home on my lunch break and whipped up a pot of chili, threw it in a crock pot and went right on back to work.  I know, I know...It's like 90 degrees outside today, but ever since September arrived I've been craving chili and a pregnant gal can't ignore a craving.  So, yes, I'll probably be up all night with the worst heartburn of my entire life (thanks to the baby who is currently occupying the majority of my abdominal space), but it will be worth every bite I assure you!  Chili is like my rite of passage to enter into Fall.  It's my favorite time of year!  I might just have to make a microwaved S'more for dessert ;)
